| Cheesy title...especially the latter half. But I will explain. SO. WE WON today. HOORAY. 2nd year in a row to go to Final Four! (which doesn't seem like a lot compared to Wooden's 9-yr run. o_O) But I am grateful, really am. Good thing for the readers this year, I'm not as "mad" about basketball as I was last year. Haven't been keeping up with any bball. And I'd have to say, this was the FIRST UCLA bball game that I've watched for more than 7:00 minutes left on the clock. Sadness, isnt it? But anyway, I came across this picture and must've laughed like a lunatic out loud to myself for a good 5 minutes.
HE LOST HIS SHOE!!!!!!!!! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. Does anyone else find that funny or am I being the only immature one here?! This is even funnier than ppl losing their shoes while marching in the field show! HAHHAHA. Ok. For the latter half of this update on Morbid Mike. You like that alliteration? I pride myself in my English genius, yes I do. Took me a mere 3 seconds to come up with that one. ho ho ho ho. Maybe some of you guys know that my family and I went on a super duper ghetto chinese tour to the east coast during winter break. I should've updated about it with some pictures, but due to my disturbing level of lethargy, my updates themselves have been lacking.. in both quantity and quality. Anyway, as I was browsing through the pictures I've taken, I've come to realize some sort of theme going on here.... ............. I tend to take pictures of my brother with dead things (or things related to death). Kind of morbid, but still, I liked how those pictures turned out. Let's see, shall we? My brother walking through a cemetery across from Ground Zero.
Here is another cemetery, this one in Boston. Everything looks so serene.
This one's not THAT morbid, since it's a memorial, not really a cemetery. But if you think about it, his image is meshed together with the names of those fallen at Vietnam. And that in itself... is kind of morbid. -___- This picture would've been totally cool had it been his reflection only. Stupid bystanders. Hahhaha. j/k
Here's Mike at Trinity Church, sitting all by his lonesome self listening to some eerie organ music playing in the background (just pretend you can hear it). Lastly, I think this one's the most morbid of all. ....
I'm not sure if you can really tell the vapors coming up. But this was a memorial to.....the Jews. Yes, we're in the gas chambers. The funny thing was, I did not intend the pic to turn out like this. I took my camera to snap a quick pic, and my bro and mom's faces were not posed. They just looked that morbid. Ah. So much mobidity. (is that even a word?) GOod thing he didn't ask me to take a picture of him in front of Ford Theater. So here's a mighty fun and "jolly" picture. (if you're wondering why "jolly" was put in quotations, think of another synonym for "jolly," and no, it's not "happy.")
This one was quite good, I'd have to say. In Boston. And another happy one. THis one's REAL happy.
CHocolate...mmMMmMmMmmMMMMMmmmm..... Lastly, the happy family.
On top of Empire State Building. Yep, this was quite a while ago. ho ho ho ho. Happy Spring Break, everyone!
| Yes, I confess, I am a closet emo.
I have fallen to my knees
... As I sing a lullaby of pain
I’m feeling broken in my melody
As I sing to help the tears go away
Wow, so emo.
Then I remember the pledge you made to me
...
*raises head* pledge?? what pledge? what ray of sunlight, what glimmer of hope? but soft, what light through yonder window breaks?!!
I know you’re always there
To hear my every prayer inside
I’m clinging to the promise of a lifetime
I hear the words you say
To never walk away from me and leave behind
The promise of a lifetime
ahhh... all better now.
so emo time?.....
not really.
but here's a pic taken by jane of ruth and myself trying to be emo at least...success or failure?

Emo setting thanks to Getty Villa.
kk, back to studying. Have fun, everyone.
(btw, go get the song -- Kutless - Promise of a Lifetime)
| Hot cakes!
.... was the first thing that came to mind when i heard the name.

So yeah, I watched the sneak peak of 300 w/ Esther (who works for Campus Events so I got to go as a V.I.P. guest with her! sweeeeetness!)
Despite some unnecessary scenes, overall I think it was pretty entertaining. May not be historically accurate, but they've included enough classicisms to keep me happy. =)
Being a classics nerd, I'd have to say the Battle of Thermopylae is one of my fav battles, alongside with Marathon. I remember during my travel study program, Vicky and I fell in love with Leonidas. Hahaha.
When visiting Sparta and seeing a huge bronze statue of Leonidas, our professor was telling us how there was a bigger one of him at the Pass......with no clothes on. -___-
So here is Leonidas.... in all his glory...
I guess I really didn't have to block it out, since you couldn't see anything anyway. The platform on which he's standing on is etched:
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE (mo-lon la-be).... I think---I took latin, not greek!
Roughly translated it means "Come and get them!"
Yep, Vicky was so thrilled to hear that line in 300, when the Persians asked the Spartans to surrender their weapons. That was a nice touch for Frank Miller to include.
There were actually still flower wreaths that people have placed at this memorial--pretty awesome.
And the plaque?
That reads.... "Go tell the Spartans, travelers passing by, that here obedient to their laws, we lie"

Sigh. These Greeks are too cute. Still leaving behind memorial bouquets and the such to their ancestors. And Jewish tourists. or wanna Jewish people.
This place is really a dangerous terrain. There were red ants crawling everywhere just waiting to bite you. -_-
And this is the view when you look up from the plaque... Pretty.
All I can say is... I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I had for other classics movies....

or

Although I'd have to say I liked Troy way better than Alexander. Alexander I fell asleep watching, but then again, also props to the writer for being fairly close with Plutarch's account of Alex (which was why I was so bored).
So yeah. I want to watch 300 again. Also because...

HAHHHAHHAA. Faramir as a Spartan. Hilarious. He almost has the same pose in both pics. Lucky butt. Gets to wear so many capes.
Anyway. Pointless entry once more. I need to stop this.
EDIT (in response to comments): - i try not to be too critical about classics movies like these. because they're just movies.. their purpose is to entertain, and frankly, i was entertained. had it been a historical documentary, i'd have plenty of objections. overall, they did a nice portrayal of the Spartans.. and who really cares whether some facts were sacrificed for the sake of getting ppl interested? at least it helped with the spread of classicisms... and should the movie spark interest in ppl to be educated about the historic truth--then all the better. - i am not boy/man crazy. just classics crazy. sure, there was an overload of muscles in places where i never imagined them to arise, that doesnt mean that they were the reason of me watching the movie. perhaps you missed the line where i said the battle of thermopylae was one of my favorite ancient battles. - wow, i sound so defensive. hahahhaa. just clearing things up. hope it was helpful in the least. =)
| two months. O_O my brain has been idling and so has my xanga. after studying for the CBEST and CSET (and plug 4 finals in between those two tests)....I feel like my brain has been churned into mush. It's slowly solidifying again. Hopefully it'll solidify before I graduate. (although then that'd be kind of pointless)
Anyway, likewise, this will be a pointless update.
As a graduating senior, I've come to appreciate UCLA a lot more than I did upon entering as a freshman. Bruin walk--HATED it. Now, after 3.70 years, I can proudly say I can actually speed walk up that thing and not be super tired.
And the my.ucla website? Oh boy. Back in the olden days, it looked like this:

Yes, I'm lame. I saved the screen when it was on my birthday. O_O but HEY you get a nice little balloon background!
And remember all those other ugly backgrounds you could get? Star Wars? Trekkies? Nature? Stars? Dolphins?
Well apparently, the UCLA ppl are promoting a more mature, more chic look. So gone are the nice little berries and weird looking zodiac signs and plants and paw prints and what nots. Apparently, the UCLA ppl have finally figured out that those little clip-art pics used as background design...were a bit cheesy.
and NOW, they've changed it even more crazy, it's hard for this old senior to adjust and adapt.
I logged onto my.ucla one day to discover this.....

Clicking on the New Format link brought me to this....
Ok, well, not really, because it allowed me to customize my page, which I did:

ISNT THAT CRAZY?!
At first I only wanted to post how many quarters I have on the scroll down button. And I got frightened. I hadn't realized that I've been here for that long already! What classes have I taken!? O_O That's a lot of quarters!
And then I realized, wow, everything's changing. sometimes change can be a good thing. not too sure about this one though. the old style was so much more simple.
I'm not sure I really like the whole "My Ucla" font thing in the corner. And it doesn't even list my second major (well, the old one didnt either).
what i DO like, however, is the customizable "filmstrip" picture I can put it there. now, that's some creative thinking. =) oh yeah, I also just realized that the "cute" arrow is pointing at me, which was NOT the point. the picture in its entirety is cute. OK.
Yeah, ok, pointless update. I should really update about retreats. o_O I feel as if my pictures are rotting in my laptop, if that's even possible.
Good night! | | |

And they were bringing children to
him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when
Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the children come
to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a
child shall not enter it." And he took them in his arms and blessed
them, laying his hands on them. ~ Mark 10:13-16
